The Living (Well!) with Gastroparesis (LWWGP) Online Program is all about helping you gain control over your symptoms, improve your quality of life, and live WELL despite a gastroparesis diagnosis. For those who are primarily concerned with what and how to eat, the Diet & Nutrition track of the program includes only the five classes covering the guidelines of eating for gastroparesis, creating a nutrient-rich GP-friendly diet, and supplementation. Two bonus classes and two eBooks are also included.
Class 5 – Eating for Gastroparesis: Guidelines 1-5
In this class, we’ll talk about the first five LWWGP guidelines for a GP-friendly diet: eating smaller meal, eating less fat, eating less fiber, choosing nutrient-dense foods, and avoiding hard-to-digest foods. I’ll give you examples of each guideline so you’ll know exactly what is considered GP-friendly and what is not. We’ll also talk in depth about the purpose of following these guidelines and the effects of eating things that are not GP-friendly.
Class 6 – Eating for Gastroparesis: Guidelines 6-10
This class is a continuation of class 5. We’ll discuss the last 5 guidelines of a GP-friendly diet, including: adding soft foods and liquids, chewing, eating slowly, keeping a food diary, and doing what works best for you. We’ll talk about handling food-related anxiety and you’ll receive a list of common GP-friendly foods. You’ll also learn about the low FODMAP diet and how to know if it might be right for you.
Class 7 – Improve Your Nutrition: Part 1 – Nutrients & Variety
In this class we’ll talk in depth about the importance of nutrition for gastroparesis management and overall health. You’ll learn how to get more nutrients into your diet without exacerbating symptoms, and how to increase the variety of foods that you eat by following the “GP-Friendly Rainbow.” (Many past participants have said this is their favorite class!)
Class 8 – Improve Your Nutrition: Part 2 – Balance & Quality
This class is a continuation of the nutrition discussion in class 8. This time we’ll talk about the importance of balance, specifically how to balance carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats in your meals, and the issues that can arise from a “typical” unbalance GP-friendly diet (such as hypoglycemia). We’ll also discuss the importance of food quality (not just quantity!) when it comes to eating for GP, when and why to choose organic foods, and why and how to incorporate more whole foods and less packaged/processed foods into your diet – all without exacerbating symptoms.
Class 9 – Supplementation
In this class you’ll learn about the basic vitamins and minerals, why they’re important for overall health and for proper digestion in particular, and the signs of the most common deficiencies among those with gastroparesis. You’ll also learn which supplements are most important for GPers, how to choose supplements, and the best ways to integrate them into your management plan without exacerbating your symptoms.
