Take Note: Special K Is Adding Fiber

Posted in: Diet ♦ Tuesday, August 24th, 2010, 4:29 pm ♦ No Comments

Another food manufacturer has jumped on the fiber bandwagon.  All varieties of Special K cereal, except for the Original, now contain added fiber .  The increase in the total amount of fiber per serving, however, is minimal.  Only about 1 gram more, for a total of around 3 grams per 3/4 cup.  So depending on your tolerance for fiber and how much cereal you tend to eat at one sitting, this may or may not be an issue.

Side note: As a Health Counselor, this “fiber added” trend really bugs me.  Not only is it making things difficult for GP patients, it’s also misleading to consumers.  The whole thing is simply a marketing ploy to make junk food appear healthier.  Guess what?  It’s still junk food.  Now it just has one more ingredient tacked on to an already too-long list of things you can barely pronounce.
