My Work & Background
My interest in holistic health began soon after I was diagnosed with idiopathic gastroparesis. Having found little relief or support from traditional medicine, I decided that I had no choice but to become my own health advocate. I set about researching not just gastroparesis but all areas of health, nutrition and wellness. It was this research that eventually led me to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and my career as a Health Counselor. Though I initially started down this path to help myself, it gradually and organically evolved into a career helpings learn to live (well!) with gastroparesis.
I completed my professional training in Health Counseling and Holistic Nutrition at IIN, in partnership with the State University of New York at Purchase, in 2010. I’m certified by the American Association of Drugless Practionners. I also have a Bachelor’s Degree from Dartmouth College and have completed continuing education coursework via the Harvard School of Medicine.
In addition to my formal training, I have seven years of personal and professional experience managing the physical and emotional symptoms of gastroparesis. During this time, I’ve helped gastroparesis patients from across the United States, as well Australia, Canada, and Scotland, learn to minimize their symptoms, maximize their nutrition, and better understand their condition. I have a first-hand understanding of the unique challenges that those with gastroparesis face, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the disorder itself.
I’m actively involved in the greater gastroparesis community and currently serve as Public Relations Director for the Gastroparesis Patient Association for Cures & Treatments (G-PACT). I’m also a member of the Gastroparesis & Dysmotilities Foundation, working to raise awareness of and advocate for gastroparesis patients worldwide.
Finally, I’m hard at work on a series of books covering various aspect of life with gastroparesis. The first, an eBook called Eating for Gastroparesis: Guidelines, Tips & Recipes, is currently for instant download at www.EatingForGastroparesis.com.

Since being diagnosed with gastroparesis aa few years ago nd even years before, I’ve been interested in nutrition, alternative medicine and natural herbs and supplements for healing as opposed to prescription medication (of which I have been on tons!). I would like to pursue studies in these fields but have been unable to find a reputable school or program. Would you recommend IIN to pursue my studies? I am currently an attorney (but hate it and all the stress that goes with it) and have been wanting to make a career change for some time now. What’s been holding me back is fear – fear that I will not succeed at being able to make a career out of my interest and passion for holistic nutrition. Can you give me some helpful tips on making the transition and any other advice on IIN, e.g. enrolling, what degree option and courses to take? Thanks so much! You are truly an inspiration for all of us suffering from gastroparesis to make a difference and to heal!
