The “Getting Started” track of the Living (Well!) with Gastroparesis (LWWGP) Online Program is intended for those who are newly diagnosed with gastroparesis and looking to gain a thorough understanding of the condition, how it’s best managed, and how to start implementing the basics of a comprehensive management plan. This track includes two classes, Class 1: All About Gastroparesis & Gastroparesis Management and Class 2: Medical Treatment and Complementary Therapy. It also includes the Quick Start Guide to Gastroparesis Management, Pharmacist Q&A, and two bonus classed, Make a Choice to Make a Change and Understanding & Addressing Constipation.
All About Gastroparesis & Gastroparesis Management (audio; Running time: 51 Minutes)
In this class, we’ll lay the foundation for you to create a successful gastroparesis management plan by creating a deep understanding of the condition itself and how it’s typically — and best — addressed. We’ll discuss the best way to obtain a diagnosis, what the diagnosis really means, truths and misconceptions about the condition, the reason a multifaceted approach is the key to symptom management, why you must make self-care a priority (and how to go about it), and how to be your own advocate in all aspects of your management plan. I’ll also help you evaluate which areas of your plan need the most attention as you move forward.
Medical Treatment & Complementary Therapy (audio; Running time: 74 Minutes)
In this class we’ll discuss both western medical treatment and complementary/alternative therapies for gastroparesis. I’ll also offer a summary of treatments available, guidance on finding and choosing physicians and complementary practitioners, building your Dream Team, obtaining insurance coverage for various treatments, and other potential obstacles/concerns to both traditional and complementary treatments.
Quick Start Guide to GP Management (PDF eBook; 40 pages)
The Quick Start Guide to Gastroparesis Management was created to put you on the path to improved symptom management and a better quality of life right now. In this eBook, I explain the gastroparesis diagnosis, outline each area of the comprehensive management plan, and take you step-by-step through making small but effective changes to get you on the path to living WELL. If you’re newly diagnosed and/or completely overwhelmed, I wrote this for you.
Pharmacist Q&A (audio; Total running time: 95 Minutes)
In this two-part audio Q&A, I talk with Chelsey McIntyre, Clinical Pharmacist and author of Your Gastroparesis Roadmap, to answer a wide variety of questions about medical treatment for gastroparesis. Chelsey received her BS in Genetics from UC Davis and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University. Chelsey has struggled herself with gastroparesis for the last 10 years but says “through a mix of the neurostimulator, diet modifications, lifestyle changes, and ‘personal peace’,” she has learned to live (well!) with gastroparesis. Chelsey is now using her education and her own experience to help others with GP.
Managing Constipation (audio; Running time: 44 minutes)
While not applicable to everyone, this class is important for those who struggle with constipation as it can further delay gastric emptying. We’ll discuss the most common causes of constipation among those with gastroparesis, as well as medical treatment and self-care remedies/techniques to improve bowel regularity.
Make a Choice to Make a Change (video; Running time: 80 minutes)
This video class is all about taking steps to improve your life right now… regardless of your current circumstances. You don’t have to wait for your situation to change. You just have to make a choice to make a change. I did it. You can do it, too. In this pre-recorded webinar, I share how my quality life changed dramatically — while my gastroparesis essentially stayed the same — and offer suggestions to help you experience the same.
